Learning ecosystems are networks of learning resources that can be adapted around a specific learner's needs or interests. Serj Hunt is working to develop these ecosystems with City as a School.
In this podcast, Hunt argues that schools and teachers are asked to be everything to everyone: counselors, career advisors, mentors helping teens go through puberty, and educators working on getting students "market-ready."
That's a lot.
In Hunt's mind, we have learning resources, such as within a city, that we can use to customize and curate educational experiences. He argues that students spend too much time in the traditional classroom. Technology could play a role in freeing up teachers to provide students with the personal exploration they need.
He argues that we can't put babies in front of an AI and expect them to be Galileo, but he is working to reimagine a future where learning and accrediting skills can be more personal with technology.
Enjoy this wide-ranging discussion with a deep-thinker, exploring the edges of what's possible in education.
